The Human Heart
a lecture by Rudolf Steiner
The Human Heart is a single lecture in which Rudolf Steiner
describes the development and interaction of the etheric heart
and astral heart in relation to the development of the growing
human being. He describes a beautiful picture the the
developing etheric body in which the etheric heart only
coalesces into an organ at puberty and how the astral body,
initially varied and differentiated, immerses itself into the
various organs to which it is related around the same time.
The etheric heart, containing an impress of the entire
spiritual cosmos that the soul and spirit descended from prior
to birth, is infused with the astral heart which takes in all
human experience between birth and death. The etheric heart, a
cosmic extract, is thus imbued with all of life's experiences
as well as thought, feelings and intentions, and this
following death is carried back to the cosmic ether, bringing
human experience into the cosmos and forming the basis for
future karma.

The Human Heart - Rudolf Steiner

Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925)
called his spiritual philosophy 'anthroposophy', meaning
'wisdom of the human being'. As a highly developed seer, he
based his work on direct knowledge and perception of spiritual
dimensions. He initiated a modern and universal 'science of
spirit', accessible to anyone willing to exercise clear and
unprejudiced thinking.
From his spiritual
investigations Steiner provided suggestions for the renewal of
many activities, including education (both general and
special), agriculture, medicine, economics, architecture,
science, philosophy, religion and the arts. Today there are
literally thousands of schools, clinics, farms and other
organizations involved in practical work based on his
principles. His many published works feature his research into
the spiritual nature of the human being, the evolution of the
world and humanity, and methods of personal development.
Steiner wrote some 30 books and delivered over 6,000 lectures
across Europe. In 1924 he founded the General Anthroposophical
Society, which today has branches throughout the world.
