A
Veterinary Materia Medica and Clinical Repertory
with a Materia Medica of the Nosodes
by George Macleod MRCVS, DVSM, Vet.
FF Hom
"When I
received my review copy of George Macleod's book I was surprised at
first by its compact size for such a comprehensive title but I
believe this is its great strength. It is certainly a publication I
welcome whole- heartedly.
"Divided into three parts, the major section is the materia medica
followed by sections on nosodes and their uses and a clinical
repertory.
"The
materia medica catalogues for the most part alphabetically, some 280
remedies, each described with a brief reference to origins, major
actions upon the body systems and some useful suggested
applications. This puts into context and proportion a lot of
information so confusingly stored in much larger materia medica
where it is difficult to see the wood for the trees.
"For
the first time in one book the section on nosodes provides written
reference to the main pointers for the veterinary use of these,
putting together much information still sketchily understood by many
who use them.
"The
clinical repertory gives a short list of remedies allied with some
major disease headings. It does not attempt any 'scoring' of
remedies for their relative strength of indication for the stated
conditions. This may be a good thing for it could reduce the
tendency to stick to one remedy for one condition - a common but
distinctly non-homoeopathic approach to disease and its cure.
"This
book is an invaluable work of reference - a description I use
advisedly for three reasons. Firstly, its compact size makes it
readily portable; secondly, the very simple layout makes for swift
consultation; thirdly, its content is unique.
"No
veterinary surgeon using homoeopathy, or considering its use, can
afford to be without it. I consider it to be a major breakthrough
paving the way for further works in this important field."
