The
Occult Significance of Forgiveness
Sergei O. Prokofieff
Translated from Russian by Simon Blaxland de Lange
The history of
twentieth century, filled with turmoil and war, was often driven by
anger and bitterness towards one's fellow humanity. Modern
legalistic thinking, largely preoccupied with finding and proving
guilt, guided by legal rights rather than moral purpose, only
exacerbated this situation. Yet many individuals are sincerely
trying to break the never-ending cycle of recrimination as is
evident in the growth of non-violent reform movements, the
conciliation courts which followed apartheid in South Africa, and
the presence of charity groups working in even the most hostile
areas of the world. The experience of ego-centric antipathy
can be replaced by true human empathy if the individual is willing
re-examine the singularity of his own view. To achieve this
Prokofieff shows how, in our personal and moral lives, the forces
which lead to empathy and forgiveness may be consciously and freely
developed within ourselves. Without preaching a morality of
forgiveness, he sets before us the spiritual facts, which speak for
themselves. The importance of the theme becomes apparent, not only
for one’s own personal development, but also for the furtherance of
human evolution.
From Tsarist Russia to
the concentration camps of Nazi Germany, the author gives striking
examples of people who have been able to forgive terrible crimes.
His rich analysis delves beneath the immediately perceptible,
revealing the esoteric significance of every single act of true
forgiveness.
‘ . . . Sergei
Prokofieff reaches from the intimacies of daily life to the most
sacred realities. This is an important work, which deserves to be
